An Outline of Adoration:
Adoration will be a classical festive music video aimed to start filling the gap in the market for artistic and directed classical music videos as apposed to the currently available live performances and images with classical music behind. I would also like to effectively capture the textures, colours and emotions conjured at Hanford School’s legendary nativity play and through the interior of Sherborne Abbey. Of course this will be matched and highlighted by Sherborne Girls Choir singing an atypical arrangement by Becky McGlade of the well know carol In the Bleak Midwinter.
The Target Audience:
My target audience are those unable to pay the high prices of live performance tickets for live concerts of classical music and want to see and experience the beautiful world Adoration will create. This audience will also include the family, friends and all who know the Sherborne Girls, Sherborne and Hanford school communities.
Adoration’s USPs:
As far as I have seen, there is nothing like Adoration out there. When looking to listen and watch videos of classical music the only ones to be found are films of live performances and still images with the classical music backing it. Adoration will be cinematically crafted and edited with imagery and style put before the music itself. Although Adoration is a music video it will give as much pleasure visually as through sound to its audience wherever they are.
So, Adoration’s unique selling points are that it is one of a kind, cinematically crafted and takes into account the senses and emotions of the audience.
The Production of Adoration:
Adoration will be a simple single-camera production with a small crew and a lot of effects added post-production. This will include colour correction and enhancing, a film gate and a film look creator. I will also balance lighting and shot types to creat a seamless and effective music video. DaVinci Resolve will be used to edit.

The style and tone of the production:
The tone of the Adoration will be spiritual, festive and peaceful. It will be colourful and rich in colour, light and texture. The music will be calming and emotive as it gives the audience time to reflect on their lives and the Christmas Story. The style will be cinematic, mimic renaissance devotional pictures and use the audience’s senses of sight and sound to convey effective feelings of tranquility and calm.
The format/ genre:
The genre that would best fit Adoration would be a classical narrative and cinematic music video. However, unlike most music videos where the music is paramount- Adoration will combine cinematography and visuals in equal measure to create the most compelling and engaging classical music video.

Film Production techniques include:
A single-camera production, Adoration will feature varying shot types, most of which will be close-up to both protect the privacy of young actors but also to highlight the colours and textures of the Christmas story. Lots of editing techniques will be used. The whole music video will be a montage combining a performance and the interior of Sherborne Abbey. Lighting will be difficult to balance and so colour and light will be adjusted post-production. Sound design will be challenging as the recordings of ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ will be unaccompanied performances taken from two separate performances (carol services), coughs and sound distortions will also need to be edited out.
Mise-en-scene (the nativity shots/scenes):
As most of the shots are taken from a live play of the Nativity, the original (live) set’s lighting, staging and production design will be used and so it will be up to me as director to compose shots such as close-ups, tracking shots, medium shots etc. As I will be part of the audience shots with widely varying angles will be unavailable.
As the Christian Christmas Story is well know and will be by the target audience in particular- Adoration will only abstractly visually tell the story and the audience will need to piece it together. This will keep them engaged and knowing what is coming next but intrigued as to how I will portray the classical story. The audience, I am sure, will also know the lyrics to the famous hymn the music video will be set to, but they may not recognise the musical arrangement by Becky McGlade.
